During the assessment process, your child may be asked to listen to information, read words and sentences, or spell words. They may be asked to read a paragraph or story and answer questions. The assessments used will provide the diagnostic information necessary for beginning a targeted program of remediation. This assessment can take multiple sessions, or 2- 4+ hours, depending on your child's age and skill level. Following the assessment, we will analyze the data and score your assessments. We will discuss the results with you, provide a written report, and you will have an opportunity to ask any questions. If you decide to move forward with treatment, we will work together to create goals. Assessments will be given periodically to measure progress throughout future sessions.
Services
Before beginning services, it is important to assess each child for individual strengths and
needs. Evaluations include a review of medical/educational documentation, parent/child concerns and goals, medical/educational family history review, and specific testing depending on the areas of concern. The purpose of our evaluation is to identify your child's areas of struggle and to determine if they would benefit from therapy services. If you have a report from an outside psychological or speech/language evaluation, please bring that with you. We will provide you with comprehensive information regarding your child's reading, writing, spelling, or language skills and refer you to other professionals as needed.

Intervention Sessions

All of our sessions are one-on-one and individualized to meet each child's needs. Sessions are typically 30-60 minutes and are recommended 2-4 times per week, depending on your schedule and your child's level of need.

We are trained in Orton-Gillingham, Neuhaus, and SPELL-Links and use a Structured Literacy approach when working with students with dyslexia or reading/spelling difficulties. This approach is evidence-based, systematic, and tailored to each individual student. Prior to beginning services, your child will need to complete an assessment as detailed above. Your child will be provided with all materials needed for sessions. Click HERE for more information regarding the Orton-Gillingham approach and HERE for more information about Structured Literacy. Please visit our resource page for further information regarding literacy.

Through the use of innovative technology and science-backed intervention, we are able to provide the same services virtually! All sessions are conducted with a live professional with extensive training in current literacy practices. The online platform we use allows for the interventionist and child to hear and see one another in real-time and interact in all components of a literacy lesson. To participate in virtual services, your child will need access to a computer or iPad equipped with a camera and a good internet connection. Prior to starting services, we will work with you to ensure you are set up and ready to go!
